Janey Hitch CNM
In an effort to be the best childbirth instructor she could be, Janey began attending births with her midwife. The more births she attended, the more her passion grew for helping women birth naturally.
Licensed in Texas to practice as a midwife on April 24, 1987. A retired La Leche League breastfeeding counselor, and a former Certified Professional Midwife by the North American Registry of Midwives. A former member of the Texas Department of Health Midwifery Board. She holds a Masters degree in registered nursing. She also worked many years as a staff nurse in labor and delivery units. After attending Frontier Nursing University and completion of her clinical practicum with Houston’s Baylor Midwifery Service at Ben Taub Hospital, she obtained an Advanced Practice Nurse license as a Certified Nurse-Midwife for 7 years. Practicing within large corporate structures affirmed her love for educating and empowering women during pregnancy and natural birth as well as awakened her desire to return to providing care to women outside of the institutional setting. She has huge passion for expectant families to know that they have the power to make choices in childbirth, and that pregnancy and birth are normal processes; not mysterious or scary events to be “delivered from.”
She knows birthing intimately from three perspectives: as a mother, as a labor and delivery nurse, and as a midwife. She has experienced first-hand what a difference information and a sense of control can make when you are having a baby. The home birth of her first child was such an empowering experience. It was among the hardest, most rewarding work she has ever done.
They moved to Sulphur Springs where she worked as a Certified Nurse-Midwife with the wonderful team at Christus Mother Frances Hospital. It was that experience that led her to providentially to meet Licensed Certified Professional Midwife Jennifer Chrisman and formed Seedling Births.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve the community of Sulphur Springs. It is a privilege to facilitate the childbirth process and to enhance the best possible outcome for women and their newborns, and after all these years of being a midwife… I still feel the passion”, says Janey.
